If proposed copyright reforms proceed, Australia will become a global IP-laundering paradise. Why would a UK business license its TV shows here if they can be scraped at will? Australia and the UK have always had a shared love of creativity. We consume each other’s TV, news, music and books. Our chefs appear on each other’s TV channels and quite frankly I was bereft when the ABC’s The Newsreader ended its run in the UK. That shared love though, appears not to be reciprocated by the Australian go

Running out of space on your Nintendo Switch 2? Thankfully, Samsung’s P9 MicroSD Express card is discounted at multiple retailers, with the 256GB version going for $47.99 (Amazon, B&H Photo) and the 512GB version $99 (Amazon, B&H Photo). The smaller card typically sells for around $80, and the larger option usually sells between $150 and $200, though both are higher than their original launch prices, likely because of the ongoing memory shortage. As it prepares to go public, Anthropic's S-1 filing makes generative AI's methane dependency glaringly obvious. "Competition for access to electrical supply and data center locations with adequate power availability is intense." In documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission Monday, Anthropic acknowledges that data centers are becoming increasingly reliant on "natural gas" - the fossil fuel industry's marketing term for what is primarily methane - leaving the company's AI da

Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth says technological advances will reduce need for human involvement in warfare A future Royal Air Force will rely on “autonomy not flesh”, its chief said on Monday as he described plans in which Typhoon fighters are accompanied by four AI-enabled drones capable of patrolling hundreds of miles in the distance. The technological shift would revolutionise warfare, limit the role of military personnel “towards the outside” and ease the pressure on recruitment, Air Chief M

Apple has just released iOS 27.2, bringing Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo. The software update also includes an "Edge Light" feature for the iPhone Duo that's intended to illuminate your face during video calls. Apple previously said the iPhone Duo would add support for the Apple Pencil "later this year." The company's first foldable comes with revamped iOS 27 controls designed to work across the device's 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer screen. Many major apps, like Netflix, Pr

The RealReal, a secondhand luxury fashion consignment retailer, said it's updating its bot defense system, effectively making it harder for AI agents to shop on its site. The change comes days after The Verge reported that an AI agent could be used to take advantage of The RealReal's item reserve system. On the retailer's website, an item goes "on hold" and is unavailable for other customers to buy for 20 minutes once it's placed in a user's shopping cart. Using Meta's Muse, The Verge was able t

Following reports of iPhone Duos with cracked and broken inside screens, often showing a bright line running from the center to the right side, Apple says in a statement to Bloomberg and 9to5Mac that it's aware of "an issue impacting the inner display" on a "small number of iPhone Duo units." If your iPhone Duo is affected, Apple says to contact AppleCare for a replacement. The bezels aren’t that noticeable with other watchfaces, but some things don’t change. Last week, I sank into my living room couch and watched a bedraggled, nihilistic Matthew McConaughey take a drag of a cigarette in season 1 of True Detective. "You know, someone once told me time is a flat circle. Everything we've done, or will do, we're gonna do over and over and over again." I assume most people aren't thinking about fitness trackers or gadgets while watching that scene. But in that moment

With only minor changes, the XM4C is more of a re-release than a refresh of the XM4. When Sony announced the WH-1000XM4C headphones, I was perplexed. A product revamp usually includes at least one or two significant improvements. Or if it's a nostalgia play, it's from a decades-old product and not one that came out in 2020. Beyond a few minor tweaks, though, the XM4C are remarkably similar to their six-year-old namesake, the beloved WH-1000XM4. They even use the same processor for active noise

As is tradition, iFixit has torn open the latest iPhone and laid its parts bare on a table. It found some interesting details about how Apple might be hiding the crease on the Duo's folding screen and gave it a 5/10 repairability score. That might not seem particularly high, but it's the best score the site has given to a foldable yet. The internal screen's matte nano-texture cover doesn't just make it more readable in bright sunlight; it also helps mask the crease by scattering reflections. Wh

In my mind, Spooky Season music comes in two distinct flavors. There are the fun, occasionally goofy songs like "The Monster Mash" and John Carpenter's "Halloween Theme." Then there is the genuinely terrifying: Throbbing Gristle, The Body, or Scott Walker's The Drift. This 2006 album from the singer-songwriter is truly upsetting. On it, Walker explores death, disease, and tragedy. But not just from some abstract perspective. There are visceral descriptions of the hanging of Benito Mussolini and

Social media and the iPhone Duo subreddit are filled with reports of Apple's foldable failing quickly and in spectacular fashion. Some users report having the phone for only a few hours before the hinge seems to catch on something, then audibly crack and break the screen. Tellingly, the cracks all seem to happen in the same place. YouTuber CuriousHagi was able to reproduce the cracked screen during some durability testing of the iPhone Duo. Then he pulled it apart to try and find the culprit. W
